Elementary School

Maple Bear prepares students to be competent and confident leaders in a changing world. The Elementary School program aims at the balanced growth of children and adolescents still in full development of their potential. In addition to a curriculum with rigorous academic foundation, the program addresses the social, physical, emotional and cultural needs of each individual.

Maple Bear fosters the training of responsible citizens, able to think critically and independently.

Classes

Maple Bear offers Elementary School classes from 1st to 9th grade.

Program

At Maple Bear your child is prepared to further his or her education in Brazilian schools or move to English language schools around the world.

The Maple Bear curriculum covers all subjects and content required by the Brazilian Ministry of Education in addition to applying the Canadian program in the areas of Mathematics, Science and English Language Arts. From the sixth grade on, students also take up French.

Literacy – first in Portuguese

This is a very important stage in your child´s life for us, and we are careful so they can read and write properly. We encourage our students to enjoy reading as a constant source of pleasure and knowledge.

At Maple Bear, literacy is done sequentially, first in Portuguese and then in English.

Literacy in Portuguese is formally started in Pre-school at age 5. In the first years of Elementary School (when students are 6 years old), our students read and write in Portuguese, learning the rules of the language.

English literacy

From the second year of Elementary School on, already literate in Portuguese, our students learn how to read and write in English as well. This process occurs naturally, since he or she already understands and speaks English.

Literacy

The literacy process continues in both languages. Your child will deepen the knowledge of Portuguese and English language, acquiring mastery and fluency in reading and writing, reading comprehension, spelling and grammar. They will get to know different genres and have a broad cultural repertoire of Brazilian and international authors.

It is known that the bilingual person has richer mental structures than monolingual people, both for thinking as to linguistic expression.

Methodology

Maple Bear uses the same educational methods that have placed Canada as a world reference for the education of children and adolescents up to age 15 (see world education ranking).

Our classrooms are large and provide a number of materials and equipment to further the study daily. We have few students per class and prepared teachers who enable immediate exchange of information and support for individual growth. Maple Bear adopts Canadian and Brazilian books, both for literature and research.

At Maple Bear the student learns to take responsibility and independence to develop their full potential. Our student acquires taste for learning and quality of thinking to know how to organize his or her knowledge both for practical life and academic depth.

Our teachers continually assess student progress along with their coordinator and set goals to enrich the content and improve each student.
